If you have received an unwanted cell phone text message that appears to have come from this domain (haneberg.com), you have been the victim of text message spoofing. The message was NOT sent by anyone associated with this business or internet domain name.
Text message spoofing, also known as SMS spoofing, is a new and annoying form of harassment. The people who do this make it appear that their text messages are coming from legitimate internet domains and email addresses, when in fact they are not.
You can learn more about the problem by using Google or another internet search tool to search for “sms spoofing” or “text message spoofing”. People have been spoofing email messages for years, but if you have a good spam filter you may not have ever noticed that much of the junk mail appears to come from real people at real companies. Now that people are receiving text messages that can cost them money, they are starting to notice and complain.
There are only two people who have valid email addresses at haneberg.com. Neither of us sends unwanted text or email messages.
We understand that you are frustrated and that it can cost money to receive those unwanted messages. We are frustrated, too. After all, someone is using our name without our permission and there appears to be nothing that we can do about it. Our web hosting company has told us that the messages are sent through unsecured mail servers that have nothing to do with haneberg.com.
If you continue to receive unwanted text messages, please contact your cell phone company to ask if they can help. You may be able to limit messages to only those people you know or authorize.
Thank you for your understanding,
Bill Haneberg
